Sharee Lane
Associate Professor
Professor Lane’s vast ballet career began with Ballet West, where she danced under the direction of artistic
directors Willam F. Christensen and Bruce Marks, from 1970-79. In 1981, at the invitation of Willam Christensen,
she joined the faculty at the School of Ballet West. Professor Lane became a part of the Ballet West artistic staff
in 1989, as assistant director of the Ballet West Conservatory under new artistic director John Hart, and continued
in that position under artistic director Jonas Kåge from 1997-99. Having served as adjunct associate professor
from 1989-2001 in the Department of Ballet, she was promoted to associate professor in 2001. Professor Lane
has been a recipient of two Thomas D. Dee Grants, in 2001 and 2004, and received the prestigious Philip and
Miriam Perlman Award for excellence in student counseling and advising in 2006. Nominated for the Fine Arts
Scholars in 2005, Professor Lane recently presented her research “Through the Looking Glass: Examining the
Impact of Mirrors in Technical and Artistic Development in Female College Ballet Dancers” for the Corps de Ballet
International Conference at Western Michigan University (2007), and the Hawaii International Conference on Arts
and Humanities in 2008. As well as being a frequent guest teacher for the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and the
Northwest Professional Dance Project, Professor Lane was adjudicator for MusicFest in Spokane, Washington in
2008, and for the Montana Dance Arts Association in 2007.
